How did you guys get into dumpster diving?

I haven't officially gone inside one yet but I think tonight will be my first time!

I had a "nice introduction" to it. I worked at a luxury skin store where sample products would be thrown out if it was less than 50% full. These products were top quality and worth hundreds. So eventually I just started throwing them into my bag. If other people threw a product in the garbage I'd fish it out. Sometimes they're throw products away because they were "damaged" as in there was a scratch/dent on the lid or someone returned it. I had like 3 drawers filled by the time I left (worth at least $2k). They would also throw away huge amounts of perfectly good gift tissue paper when they changed paper colors. Tissue paper for gifts adds up! I worked there 3 years ago and I still haven't run out of tissue paper for gift giving.

I also started taking furniture that was next to a dumpster and reselling it for a little extra cash. I really like finding alternative ways to make money. Its a lot of fun! Am probably going to go inside a one my first time tonight!
