How did you start a new career?

I’ve switched careers drastically several times to completely different fields. You have to learn how to transition skills in your current position into a new career. Also, take side jobs to build skills and network. One career transition I did was my previous job was sourcing factories in the fashion industry. I also managed the supply system computer system. In the evenings, I taught at the Fashion School. When the housing crisis hit in 2008, I lost my job. I had always been going to networking events. Always. I met someone who worked for a consulting firm that had the contract with the military and at that time, the military was going to be implementing a new billion dollar computer system. I took what little computer system information I had and my teaching skills and got my foot in the door on that contract traveling the world teaching that system all over the world. I busted my butt and worked long hours. It was not easy. Still with it 12 years later in a different capacity. No degree in it whatsoever. But I’m much happier in the long run and in a career I never thought I’d have. You just can’t expect things to fall in your lap.
