How early were you all diagnosed?

My A1C was 5.7 six months before I got pregnant. It made me worried to be called prediabetic and I knew we would be trying soon. I didn't do any drastic changes though, which I'm kicking myself for now. I blamed it on being depressed about a family situation.

What do you mean spilling sugar? I was tested early just based on my high A1C at my intake appointment at 6 weeks.

I failed my 1 hour, got a glucometer myself and tested my fastings and after meals. I'm finding that it's mostly fruits that spike me. My fastings have all been good. I'm in a weird position now though because I'm still early into my first trimester and lots of things make me nauseous. Before I was thinking this was an issue I was eating a lot of bananas and crackers because it's the only thing I could keep down so my sugars must have been crazy high.

I know high blood sugars in the first trimester can cause heart and brain defects in babies. I wonder why they normally test people at 28 weeks then? I need a better answer from my doctor.

I do feel much better control with a meter that I can check my progress.
