IM transitions

Questions 1-3 will all depend on the race. I’m not familiar with that race specifically and Ironman doesn’t have an athlete guide on the website yet. Keep an eye out for it because they’ll have to release one soon and that will go over all of the details.

Generally for an Ironman branded 70.3 athlete check in will be the day before. There will be a race briefing that you can attend where they’ll go over the course and any other important information like course changes, water temp, weather conditions etc…bike check is typically the day before so you’ll put stickers on your bike and rack it. The next morning you’ll be let into the transition area to set up all of your gear and to check tires etc…A little trick is to go and buy a cheap towel that’s an obnoxious color that’ll be easy to spot to lay all of your gear on. Make a good mental note of the general area where you’re racked and then when you’re running in just look for your towel. All of your stuff will stay there throughout the race and you can collect it at the end. Sometimes your question 3 will apply to full distance races when you might have transition bags and different transition areas. Again I’m not familiar with your race but that shouldn’t apply to you.

4 - practice! Mock up a transition set up just as you would find it in a race and practice your transitions. Lay out your gear in a convenient way and imagine the easiest way to set it up in the order that you’ll need it.
