Impeachment managers capitulated to pressure from the right when history demanded they call witnesses.

I understand the gut reaction of thinking that Democrats should have worked harder to keep the story in the public eye to really rub the Republican's nose in it.

There was no way that we were going to get enough votes to convict now but maybe we could have turned a few more senators after a couple of weeks of witnesses crumbling the inanity of the Republican argument.

I get it though, there's a lot of other things that need done now, and I feel like a lot of people are mentally exhausted by Trump news.

My only worry is that I personally was on a bit of a news break, and the first thing to cross my feed about the impeachment was "they're calling witnesses!" and then basically 20 minutes later the final vote happened.

It was such jarring whiplash that it makes the Dems look incompetent, or complicit, unless you delve deeper in to the subject which a lot of people probably won't do.

I feel like that's where a lot of this "Democrats caved" narrative is springing from.
