I always have to add a disclaimer I guess that it is not an explanation for the Effect as a whole, just an example of how certain things can be altered easily with existing technologies and that some people have a bizarre confirmation bias that keeps them from believing it’s something that really exists.

I have experienced a number of MEs and need no further convincing that it’s real but there is also an uncomfortable explanation for some of them that show that it is being perpetrated by the use of an external mechanism and that it can be replicated this way as well.

We just have to be intellectually honest and assess the facts as we learn them, and the editing tool being described in the Post is a very real thing that could help explain a number of the Effects that are observed online, though not the physical changes to things like people’s family Bible in their own house or something similar.

What is more than a little amusing sometimes is that answers like this are often not accepted by either the side of the debate...
