Inherited Seized Firearms - Help?!?

So this just happened: My good friend died of a heart attack in front of his gun safe while it was open. When Sheriff and EMTs came and got him, they took all his guns out of his open safe. I inherited the guns and the Coroner said I must fill out a "Law Enforcement Release Application", but in the application, I have to input the firearm make, model and serial number, among other info... And I don't have that info. I don't even know how many guns or what types were in the safe. The coroner told me on the phone that they took many firearms AND $10K in cash (different form to get cash, and I don't expect to ever see that money). Anyone have any idea if I'll be able to get those guns? Ive been emailing the evidence officer, but I think she splits time between working at the DMV and the Sheriff's office, if you know what I mean. Has anyone ever gone through this process? Id like to avoid hiring an attorney for $5k or $10k to retrieve $3k worth of firearms. Someone here has had to have been through this... Thanks in advance of your help!
