Joe Manchin refused to listen to our pleas for help. He said, “I’m not changing. Find somebody else who can beat me and vote me out.“ So, I took him up on it. I’m running for US Senate for the beautiful State of West Virginia, and my name is Paula Jean Swearengin. AMA.

Since this is a tough question (and valid one) and isn't just me hopping on the Bernie bandwagon, I'm sure this will get downvoted into oblivion and you will never even see it much less answer it. That being said, here it goes. Donald Trump is the most vocally pro-coal politician that I can ever remember hearing. It was with this pro-coal message that he dominated your state (which had previously voted for Obama). Now I understand that you want a diversified economy for your state, one that is not so heavily reliant on fossil fuels. Personally, I'm not sure that this is a bad idea. However, given the results of the 2016 election it appears that the overwhelming majority of West Virginians vehemently disagree with you hostile approach to coal. My question is, why are there people of West Virginia so wrong about what is in their own best interest? Have they been scammed by the coal industry? Is life in the mines just all they've ever known and they are hesitant to break out of their comfort zone? Or is it possible that they are actually not wrong, that they are not dumb hicks who don't even know how to vote for themselves? Perhaps the people of West Virginia are smart to want to see some of these green jobs that you are touting materialize before they sacrifice these best chance for financial security that so many of them have ever had?

I'm sum, why are there people of West Virginia so wrong about what is in their own best interest?
