Just getting back into Coldplay after like 3 years of not listening to them at all. Here's my album rankings.

I disagree with your first point about Coldplay's first couple of albums. I think they were actually one of the pioneers of the "soft/sad alt rock" genre. During that era, they were almost a bridge between the first wave of "alternative rock" in the 90s and the softer rock ballads that the 2000s were known for. I think Coldplay was a leader, not a conformist to that era.

To your second points: it's not that I can't remember those moments exactly, it's that I can't remember which moments go to which song. Again, these few unique aspects barely stand out against the bland cluster of uninspired electronic pop "rock" (though I really don't consider this a "rock" album, which I'll get to in a moment) that is the rest of this album. It blends together in the worst way possible.

I literally just visited this sub after years of inactivity, so other people's opinions of Coloratura had nothing to do with mine. I just think it's the most interesting song on the album, by far.

Finally, I fundamentally disagree that this album sounds distinctly like Coldplay. I honestly don't think this should have been released as a Coldplay album. It should have been a Chris Martin solo record with Coloratura as a Coldplay single. Where the hell is the rest of the band in 90 percent of this album??? It's almost become as much of a phony band as Maroon 5 at this point.
