Kabam's long term Retention Strategy

I played from the very beginning (Dec 2014) until April of this year, so almost a year and a half. I beat ROL and Act 4 and put in enough time with my alliance and the T4B arenas to have at least a dozen 4* 4/40 plus several 5* champs, but no way of getting T4CC. I considered myself more than just a casual player, but I lost all motivation to play because there was nothing to play for anymore. No way to get my 4* 4/40's to rank 5 without getting in the right alliance and no hope of getting into the right alliance without having any rank 5's. So I quit. It was fun while it lasted, but I don't regret quitting. Kabam won't retain their core players for more than a year or two when they don't have anything else to achieve. They will only retain a revolving door of "mid class" players, and that may be all they need to keep the money coming in, but it won't mean that they are achieving one of their goals of keeping players going for 10 years (except the high tier ones who have everything handed to them).
