I have literally no words about what happened in the Vatican Museum recently. I'm pretty much sure this man should be held accountable, regardless of his nationality.

Well, firstly I thought I tried to convey that I know the feeling is wrong right from the start, and that it's entirely a gut-reaction from reading about this. Schadenfreude, or some variation of it, is the feeling I was trying to convey in imagining what his punishment might be, and I was trying to show that I know that it's wrong, but, as someone who loves history, stuff like this just gets to me.

I do value human life quite a lot, actually, it's just that I wouldn't personally feel bad for him if his punishment was decided to be severe - I think going to another country and destroying historical artefacts they have on display is a gross offence (obviously it's in an entirely different realm from offences like murder and sexual assault - those are definitely worse due to them being crimes committed on a person, but it's still pretty shocking to destroy a relic of ancient times). Maybe my wording was somewhat extreme on that bit in my initial post, I was just trying to convey that I didn't care about the limit of his punishment unless it was something cruel and unusual, and so the extreme upper limit would be a clean (i.e. no disemboweling or torture or anything) death sentence - I'm not saying that's what he deserves, I just said I wouldn't really feel bad.

Again - I did say I know that it's wrong - emotions and values are not the same thing, the entire point of me trying to explain all this in a relatively long initial post was the fact that they were in conflict, otherwise I would have simply written something like "they should just shoot him", which would just be a thoughtless reaction to have. I'm not sure if I'm making myself better understood or if I'm just digging a deeper hole, but I see historical items as precious and knowing that they get regularly destroyed by malice, thoughtlessness and carelessness frustrates me - is it really so wrong that I talk bad about those who do these things?
