Lobera (wolfslayer), sword of king Ferdinand III of Castile, known as "the Saint"

Lobera is an arming sword from the first half of the 13th century which belonged to king Ferdinand III, who conquered Badajoz, Córdoba, Seville, and many more places in the south of Spain.

The sword is preserved in the cathedral of Seville, where the king is buried. From king Ferdinand it passed to his son Manuel, who in turn passed it to his son Don Juan Manuel, prince of Villena, duke of Peñafiel, etc. Don Juan Manuel, despite being an accomplished general and diplomat, is mostly known as the author of "El conde Lucanor", a wonderfully written book of tales and fables.

This sword is 85 centimeters long, and is known for its interesting rock glass pommel. Each year it is paraded in procession on the day of the conquest of Seville. The honour of carrying it corresponds to the youngest city councillor.
