[MEGATHREAD] State of Play 2.23.23

State of Play 2/23

Suicide Squad: KtJL
* Live service game built around bullet sponge AI, based around 4 player co-op.
* Strong suspicion it will be very mid in the vein of Gotham Knights and Forspoken, not a terrible game, but with limited time there are better options.
Street Fighter 6
* Zangief is thicc, Lily is a racist caricature, Cammy redesign looks good. In general it’s the best street fighter in a long time, but is that enough to bring me back in? Bought Blazblue and never play it.
Baldur’s Gate 3
* BGIII coming to PS5, including split-screen co-op? Hot damn! Potentially the best DND video game ever, Aug 31st release, jumped onto my radar because it was previously a PC exclusive I was sad I was going to miss.
RE4 Remake
* Visually impressive, includes Mercenary mode, they didn’t show the VR version yet though which is the only way for me to care about this game.
Destiny 2 Lightfall
* Looks like epic sci-fi shit, great production value, but I have no idea what the fuck is going on, and trying to get into Destiny 2 at this point as someone who has never touched the franchise is about as appetizing as diving face first into a bramble patch.

PSVR 2 Games

The Foglands
* Cool roguelike with a western styling, unfortunately it’s coming to Quest 2 so you’re still playing a phone game upscaled with the cross-platform nature of the experience rather than something built around the system.
Green Hell VR
* Another VR survival title like song in the smoke, this is an old one that’s been ported repeatedly, don’t see it as the cream of the crop so to speak.
Synapse
* PSVR 2 exclusive shooter with a greyscale world and pops of color around your telekinetic powers, visually arresting and evocative, but remains to be seen how much meat there will be or if we’re talking a more bare bones situation, all depends on the content because we only saw a snippet.
Foundation Game
* Based off Isaac Asimov’s titular series, obviously the world building will be rich but the question is how well it’s brought to life and what the game ends up being like to play- the idea is great, the question, like in all game dev, is the execution.
Before Your Eyes
* Short narrative adventure that you blink through to advance, but highly critically acclaimed and lauded for its artistry, so expect a short, emotionally charged experience. It isn’t a game to play, it’s more a story that unfolds “before your eyes”.
Humanity
* Weird puzzle game by the people behind Tetris and Rez, this time you’re a glowing dog leading hundreds of humans like lemmings. Apparently it can be played in VR as well so it goes down here, but generally just a head scratcher.

PlayStation Plus Games

Tchia
* Cute 3D platformer inspired by indigenous culture, definitely interested in trying it out, the art has a nice “Hat in Time” vibe, definitely indie but seems promising. Releasing straight to PS plus like Stray, which is hopefully a model they adopt more often going forward, new games right into the PSPlus catalogue.
