I’m currently dealing with a tool someone made where they expect clients to write scripts in Lua for integration. This is a tool targeted at all companies and not software development teams. Why tf would they choose Lua and not like…JavaScript, Python, or even C ffs. Just something that is common. Like how would clients knowing the language not be the number one design constraint (it’s minimal parsing logic to tell their platform about the types of named fields). You’d think the answer is they want to make other companies pay them to do the integration coding, but no. It was because their lead software engineer made the decision that Lua is great and everyone else should learn it. I know this because he told me himself. I’m so mad we’re still dealing with them. He still tells me how great Lua is every month.
