Metroid: Samus Returns Reveal Trailer, or the reason why Nintendo sadly had no choice but to go after AM2R

It makes me sad. Genuinely sad.

When other fans of the series ask if I'm boycotting Samus Returns, I have trouble finding an answer.

The short answer is that I'm not actively boycotting Samus Returns, I just actually don't have the heart to buy it.

The longer and more complicated answer is that I no longer believe that it is emotionally profitable to be a Nintendo fan.

Nintendo did what they legally could do in a really shitty way and as a guy who was waiting for AM2R for the majority of it's long development time I was upset at their treatment of the whole deal.

Nintendo constantly reminds us that we don't get to create. We have no ownership of the experiences we have playing them. They don't CARE if we love their games. For Nintendo, we are consumers. Nothing more. At times they even seem to detest their fanbase.

We aren't seeing Metroid again because the fans want more Metroid games. The fans HAVE BEEN wanting more Metroid games since Other M.

No. We're seeing Metroid again because it has been proven to be profitable. "Metroid" generated some buzz.

I believe that games are art. And great artists do not create masterpieces simply for the paycheck.

But, you know, I might be wrong. Maybe this game has a loving team of talented people behind it that just want to do the franchise right, but I just played BLASTBALL and I fucking have some doubts.
