Nah, not in the scene anymore. And that’s pretty I found of. There’s a difference between the workhorse SM57’s and SM58’s which are dope and Royer R121s, or other stupid expensive ribbon mics.

I’m not going to record vocals on an SM57 for an entire album, if I have access to an SM7B, but I might use it to supplement the more expensive mic because all mics have different qualities.

More expensive microphones make a difference though. If mics are cars, imagine the AT2020 as a Honda. It’s reliable, gets the job done, there’s better cars, but great for what it does. Then the AT4040 would be like a higher trim of that car.
