The sand dunes are a special place any time but at night when you’re all alone they truly take feel like another planet. One of the tag lines is literally “half the park is after dark” and with good reason. It has been designated as an International Dark Sky Park meaning they are known to have exceptional night skies (void of light pollution) and the park is dedicated to protecting that.
