Missing Hiker Recounts Days Spent in the San Gabriel Wilderness

There was this movie I never finished - clicked on it because Jason Momoa was in it - where these two brothers who are in desperate need for cash devise a plan where one gets lost on a local mountain in order to sell the story when he gets rescued.

This kinda sounds like that with some of the details that are being released. Using jackets as rope? Falling but continuing on the obviously more dangerous route? The limited food and bad gear prep?

My 10 year old is a girl scout. The first rule of survival is be prepared and the second is STAY PUT if you get lost. That's how those two elementary school girls survived a couple months ago when they got lost in the woods. Their parents had sense to take them to a wilderness survival basics course and it worked!
