The most depressing way to lose a match.

I also had a very bad day on RB Hokkaido. Two of us Yanks left vs one Brit who's hiding the whole game with zero points which is typical. My teammate decides "screw this" and bails after 15 minutes of searching. My plan is to hit some GT's then land and J out because it's not worth the time looking when I could be grinding RP in another game. So I destroy the last remaining base AAA's and land at the center island auxiliary field but then decide screw this guy... if we hand him a win he'll just keep doing this. So I patrol back and forth between their AF's at cloud level and above the AAA and just after I give up and start to head back home with 10 minutes left in the game... he appears out of pure luck above and behind me after we miss passing each other with him just above and me just below some clouds.

Now his premium Hellcat is around 2km away on my tail and he has to kill me because we're winning on tickets. "No problem", I think as my newly spaded P-39N-0 is faster and has a better climb rate as per the stat cards. (624kph/17.1mps vs his 610kph/13.6mps.) So I decide to waste his time running out the clock like he wasted mine and a chase ensues. My engine is cool so I WEP it and he gains some ground until he comes down to my alt. I slowly weave a few times to make him bleed the last of his energy advantage and then level off above 1km. Then he starts slowly gaining. What the hell? So I start a shallow climb where my combined speed/climb advantage should out-run him and he flies slower the higher off the deck he goes but he's still gaining. I roll back back over into a shallow dive and still no change. The gap tick-tick-tick's less than 1.5km away so I drag him over some ships and the AF but the AAA is useless. He's going to catch me before the clock runs out but I can out-turn him as well and still have enough space to do it. (20.0s vs 21.8s) So I throttle down to get under control lock speed, faint right and roll left because I can out-roll him too and then hit my flaps. I'm in my sharp slight diving turn to get under his guns and he pops his wheels down while somehow magically not ripping them off above 350kph, he gets a little inside me to fire a short burst from 600m-800m away and my fukin' left wing is on fire. You can imagine the rest including swearing that followed.

I didn't memorize his name but it ended with "rus" which I've seen around and now I hunt them down whenever they show up in a game... and even though it's really the game that failed me... I can never shoot down enough of them to make up for what happened that day in Hokkaido.
