I need someone to sell me on playing different classes (or not, if it's a bad idea)

First, the neutral investigator (Lola) is not the best choice for your first try outside of Guardian/Seeker (you'd need to use the version buffed in the last Errata to have a non-frustrating to play).

Second, the important thing when going outside of Blue/Yellow, is that you don't need "a clue seeker", you need two investigators able to find clues to various degrees. And you don't need "a fighter", you need two investigators with ways to handle enemies to various degrees. And the more one is able to do one thing, the less the other needs to be able to do the same.

Take the Mystic. Since you have two arcane slots, the basic idea is to have a spell to find clue and another spell to kill/evade monsters equipped at the same time. And if you don't draw your spell assets, that mean that you drew powerful events like "Drawn to the Flame".

On the other hand, Survivor's playstyle is always absurd but surprisingly effective if you know how to exploit every single rule or effect. Like for example, "Look what I've found" allows you to find 2 clues in a location after having failed an investigation by 2 or less. If you investigate in a location of difficulty 2 while having 2 Intellect, then since the rules say that your skill value cannot be reduced below zero, then even if you draw a -6 you will have failed by exactly 2 (since 2-6 = 0 by the rules) so you'll be able to use "Look what I've found".

Lastly, Rogue playstyle historically struggled to find a place (though the revised Core Set tried to fix that by including Lockpick 1XP, which really helped). But the Path of Carcossa is the first expansion where it really started to work IMO (in fact, that's the expansion where Lockpick 1XP was first released). Though even in Dunwitch it already included OP cards like the Gold Pocket Watch (though admittedly unless you farm XP with Delve too Deep and Charon's Obol, it's quite expensive XP-wise).
