[No Spoilers] The next decade of Critical Role is about paying it forward

DeFranco did kind of set him up with the question, the Burnie Burns stuff, but Matt also said he felt he only had 1 or 2 full campaigns left in him.

Now, he may have misspoke, not meant it the way it sounded, or changed his mind. CR has made purposeful changes to relieve some of the stress he's under (taking the last week off from the main campaign, breaks for other mini campaigns, bringing in more people to collab on setting design) and make the whole process easier for all of them (sticking with prerecording). So perhaps perspectives have changed and people have been rejuvenated. Or maybe they still intend to dial back further, or bring in more DMs. Or maybe the reception of EXU changed plans. Who knows?

Did people put too much importance into one interview or one exchange of that interview? Maybe. Or maybe many of us have played D&D for a long time and know burnout is a thing and wouldn't be shocked to see Critical Role try to morph into other things to keep their company going if/when the show undergoes major changes (cast/DM/frequency/duration).

CR as a brand and program is built around these 8 people, and they're not ignorant of that fact. But we shouldn't believe that means they intend to keep doing it forever. Whether they keep doing it for a year, 3, 5, 10 or longer is only known to them and could change dramatically based on things that haven't happened.
