So now that 2.10 is out. Lets discuss the current balance for the special weapon slot.

Yeaaaah. As someone who personally also really only used shotguns (and to a lesser extent, fusion rifles), the new patch ruined both shotguns and the Crucible period for me.

Shotguns are completely ass now. The damage fall off, plus the 'cooldown time' after equipping them, PLUS the decreased run speed, and added recoil destroy just about every shotgun that isn't Invective. There were already ways to combat shotguns before the patch(es)--now there's absolutely no reason to use them because you're putting yourself at a distinct disadvantage. You get the same effect of a shotgun by just shooting someone and then using a melee attack on them (which, by the way, is now a super effective way to combat shotguns). Unless you're running a warlock for the melee, goodluck.

There's honestly no reason to run a sniper rifle over any of the other special weapons now. The fact that sniping for a bodyshot and then switching to a primary for a kill is viable now is laughable. The weapons have such bad time to kill and flinching effect vs. sniper rifles outside of a few that you can safely challenge most weapons with a sniper rifle. The game has literally become either teamshooting folks, sniping, and running away to do it all again. There is no reason to push and no reason to even feel threatened if the enemy pushes against you.

The changes encourage some of the things that turned me off to FPSs for the longest times (most notably, camping and team-shooting).

I see where the game is going and all I can say is hopefully the Division is good.

(P.S. I honestly had no clue that people here felt shotguns are scrubby. I've personally always felt the opposite, in Destiny at least. With the radar, it takes much more work to get close to an opponent than it does to camp a room and wait for someone to run in front of your crosshairs...which is what the game has devolved into. The fact that you rarely see people sniping in Inferno modes are indicative of this).
