Opinion: Elo hell exists because of how BS the RR system is

I’m not sure this is right. I don’t think they give as much weight to frags as a lot of people think. I had a game recently with literally 45 kills on Jett where I got +15 RR while the person I queued with got +21 RR as a 10-10 Viper. I’ve had wins where I bottom fragged the entire lobby and got +20 RR as well.

I think it really has a lot more to do with how the game thinks you should perform. If you’re expected to win a game and you lose while carrying, you’ll lose a lot of RR. If you win a game while getting carried while the game expects you to lose you’ll gain a lot.

It sucks, but the game includes luck. There is quite a bit of luck to go around from your side and the other team and so it feels like there is an elo hell, but the fact is that a lot of people are just not actually better.

Sometimes if someone starts a new account and places better, it’s more because they’re actually able to play against better players and that helps them improve. I think the main thing about elo hell is that it can be hard to improve without good competition to consistently push you.

In general though if you’re even a little bit better you will climb out. There are people with losing win rates that still climb from silver to plat or plat to immortal or iron to silver. The game doesn’t require you to have obscene win rates to climb.
