Grew up in NYC in the 80s, my friends group looked like Peter Parkers class in Homecoming. Race never came up about anything.

There was a stigma about being gay still, but the community was thriving in the village. Some of my friends came out in highschool and college, they were never avoided, or treated differently.

Skateboarders damage a lot of private property, and metal heads look scary, but aside from that, whatever.

Smoking weed... theres a big difference between "don't take a mind altering substance," and "You're not allowed to have certain thoughts or opinions."

I know this isn't a typical tale, from small town America, but creating the same kind of friction in reverse doesn't seem like a solution to me.
