Orange = contam?

Grain should be dry to the touch! If you are getting that much moisture build up in the jars, my experience says that you are going to most likely end up with wet rot/contam or stalled growth. Cook brown rice for 10 mins, rinse with cold water, drain, and then spread it out on a large pan and pat it dry. You went it dry on the outside and slightly hydrated on the inside. I also mix in a little bit of vermiculite into my rice jars to aid in moisture balance.

This is exactly the issue with precooked rice bags - they are over hydrated and the slightest bit of excess moisture upsets them. When I do grain jars like this with dry to touch grain, I get very quick colonization. I usually see growth after day 3 from MSS.
