Owing taxes and borrower defense forgiveness

Correct...no taxes due to forgiven student loan debt for a few more years.

As far as the refund, hard to say. Generally a physical injury settlement would be tax free, which this is not. This might count as some kind of money being returned due to fraud so might be exempt or something? I'm not a tax expert.

Guess we'll see if this goes through, and if we get refunded, and figure that out later.

I know that any deposit over 10k to any bank account gets reported to the IRS. Be interesting if they mail out individual checks for every payment you made, or if it's a direct deposit lump sum. Some have reported getting a stack of checks for each individual payment from other BDTR approvals.

The refund part is just wild. Can't believe it.
