Passion vs. Pay

Yeah, of course. I was teaching in Hanoi. Personally, I much prefer the north, but I‘m sure others would disagree. HCM is much more western with a lot more international businesses based there while Hanoi’s a bit more traditional. Vietnam’s a major tourist destination, so there’s still plenty of western restaurants/ bars in Hanoi though. Hanoi’s close to Sapa, Ha Giang, Ha Long Bay, Cat Ba, and a couple of major national parks, so there’s a bunch of outdoorsy things to do, but no sandy beaches. HCM is closer to the beach and the Me Kong Delta. Da Nang is Vietnam’s third biggest city and it’s coastal with a decent expat population and a fair amount of jobs, so that also might be worth considering.
