Is it possible that Alex was there and saw his family murdered as a warning from a cartel that ran drugs and used him for money laundering purposes?

Makes sense to me about why he is lying about some things but didn’t actually do it. If it’s a drug running business, then they need their money launderer alive and they don’t care what gets in the way. If Maggie and Paul were going to expose it, then an organized crime syndicate would eliminate them. Killing them in front of Alex could’ve been a warning to shut up and keep business going/be the fall guy.

That’s just one bit of doubt one juror could ponder to say “not guilty”

The defense team probably has way bigger and better holes to poke into the prosecution. I think he will walk.
