Plague Dragon

Yeah this design severely backfires just because of this. It would be like having an overstatted Hunter Dragon that destroys your weapon.

Like, it's just something you can play around till you play it.

A card like this needs other drawbacks, like:

  • Destroy Mana Crystals (Felguard)

  • Lose card advantage (Succubus, Lakkari Felhound, Doomguard, Reckless Diretroll)

  • Destroy or damage friendly minions (Void Terror, Ratcatcher, Sanguine Reveler, Ravenous Pterrordax are all great examples since they are only overstatted if they actually destroy friendly minions) (Also Loose Specimen)

  • smORC your own face (Flame Imp, Pit Lord)

All of these conditions are much better because they are impossible to avoid, or they penalise you for avoiding them (Sanguine Reveler and Ravenous Pterrordax are woefully understatted for example), or they go against your predicted gameplan (Is Loose Specimen really worth the +1 Attack for tempo when it asks to bombard your board that you also want for tempo?)

The most successful of these given examples are the cards that get the most bang for buck and whose penalties are not so contradictory to the deck's gameplan (or simply avoided). These are Flame Imp and Doomguard.

Flame Imp is a 1 Mana 3/2, and with such an aggressive start you can bet you're happy to dock yourself 3 HP if you kill your opponent that much faster.

Doomguard is a 5/7 with Charge, so avoiding his Battlecry by exhausting your hand for such a big yet aggressive card seems reasonable. Or, there are tools you can use to cheat him out (Voidcaller, Possessed Lackey, Skull of the Man'ari).

But OP's card doesn't require much of you in terms of "cheating" or forming your deck around a specific plan. This is just a 4 Mana 4/8, that maybe deals up to 2 damage to you on Turn 4. Barely a drawback.
