[The Players' Tribune] Done in the Dark | By Lamar Odom.

Man....my Mom died when I was that age too. Pretty much the same way..And this shit hit me really hard man. I feel so much for this guy. He didn't even have his father to help him brace for it either. The feeling is like having your entire being ripped out of you. You don't realize how much of your soul "lives" in your parents until one is gone. It's like having a bright light, guiding you that suddenly vanishes, and you're alone in the dark. With so much of the trail still ahead of you. I wouldn't wish 1/1000th of that feeling on my worst enemy. You age must faster than other people, because that feeling that everything will be okay dissapears, you realize how fucked up and uncaring this world is. It takes so long to create your own light with the tools they left behind, but it never feels quite the same. But if you're reading this and had the same thing happen or are going through it. Just realize that as corny as it sounds. Everything they gave you will be with you forever. All those goofy jokes, all those serious moments that define your character, everything. And if you keep walking, eventually it will get brighter and the scenery will change. Keep going.
