Pre-adoption anxiety flaring up really bad. Picking up cats today and paranoid I'm making the wrong choice

That is a very good point. For the past 22 years I've lived with several family cats and they both lived to an old age. We have overcome every obstacle that has come our way. Unfortunately fostering is out of the question due to my apartment's animal policy. I would like to volunteer in other ways, though.

Well because my mom didn't feel a "spark" with the cats I chose, she thinks I'm getting desperate. I have low self-esteem so I can be prone to seeking parental approval despite being an adult. So I've started to question my decision because she personally doesn't approve.

I've spent all of Christmas break at the shelters looking at cats. My mom is extremely picky about what she likes in a cat and she personally didn't find them cute/playful enough. It doesn't matter tho because I don't even live with my parents anymore.
