I’m not here to jump in and pick sides or anything; but after reading your post and your translations, let me make an analogy.

What you’re saying feels something like this…

Let’s say an Italian guy goes to Japan and finds some cool type of sausage. He brings it back to Italy. An American friend of his comes to visit, and falls in love with the sausages, and decides he wants to try to bring them to America. He asks his Italian friend what they are. The Italian, not having a word for the sausage in his language, shows him the packages, saying they’re Japanese sausages. The American gets home and orders some of these sausages from Japan, sets up shop, and starts giving away sausages to people on the street, with a sign that says “free Japanese hotdogs”. Many people come by the stand, and graciously accept the gift, saying, “that’s a great hotdog!” Eventually, a Japanese man comes by. Not knowing what a hotdog is, he curiously takes one and eats it. To his surprise, what he discovers is that this man is giving out kurobuta sausages. He then goes online to shame the American man and try to let everyone know that these aren’t hotdogs at all, but are instead kurobuta sausages, he makes sure to let everyone know this.

Now, is this analogy spot on? No, not really. But at the end of the day, you’re ripping on people who have devoted time and energy into giving fans of a work an opportunity to experience that work in a medium that they can make sense of. I’m sure something can be said for translating from a translation, as others have already pointed out. But at the same time, people who can’t read Japanese are finally able to understand at least something while playing through this, rather than skipping through a bunch of symbols they can’t make sense of.

I think I understand most of your contentions, and just because they may be valid, doesn’t mean they should be used to discredit and shame. Let the people enjoy their free Japanese hotdogs. Certainly don’t go about trying to publicly lambast the man handing them out. I mean, if he was selling these things and trying to profit off of people’s ignorance, then that’s likely another story. But he’s just giving them away for free, hoping people will enjoy them.
