Affordable but decent cat/kitten food?

Aldi cat food - the 'premium' dry stuff - is very good value for money and our senior cat did very well on it, supplemented with single serve wet food and a careful selection of human food table scraps as occasional treats.

Keep feeding your kitten their recommended diet for a bit longer though - kittens are doing a lot of growing and need solid nutrition. Plus, kitten digestions are much easier to upset than adult digestions if their diet suddenly changes in a major way.

That said, just like with human babies, it pays to introduce them to a variety of foods - in limited quantities and with supervision - when they are young, so that they are more accepting of dietary changes as they get older. You don't want to get stuck with an adult cat that only eats one brand.

Also, you may discover that your kitten loves a certain food, which can be useful when training them; cats can be trained pretty easily, but food rewards do make it easier. For example, they will learn their name very fast if you call them by name before every meal.
