I witnessed a car crash once: a large SUV ran a red light and t-boned a small Mazda on the driver's side. It flung the tiny car half way across the intersection. I thought for sure nobody could have survived it - SUV already looked like it was speeding, hadn't braked at all, but as I ran over to the car, the driver had climbed over and was already getting out the passenger side of the front and getting his 2 month old baby from the back seat. We rushed them off the road and the driver handed me his baby and collapsed in shock. He was winded and had bruising from his seatbelt/airbag but otherwise almost completely unharmed. Baby was hysterical but no injuries.

I still get teary-eyed thinking about that night. I was absolutely certain I was going to see someone die, but they were almost totally fine.

(both dad and baby left in an ambulance and apparently stayed overnight in hospital, but were fine. I'd given my number as a witness in case they needed it and the dad called me the next day to let me know).
