I'll admit, for about a month I had a few channels like this that I liked to frequent, and I found some of the material somewhat funny. I would mainly just check out the channels while laying in bed or on the toilet, or to kill time in any boring situation I found myself in. My interest in these channels stared to wane when they started all this gossiping and hating on other youtubers channels, even though what they were saying about eachother was true sometimes. I admit that I did enjoy when channels like H3H3 and idubbz would call out toxic YouTube material that was "poisoning" YouTube, because I found that I disliked that stuff just as much as they did so it was relatable to hear them put the main message into a video so millions of people could see through all the shit on YouTube. I'm thinking specifically about the video about that douche lord Leafy and him hiding his chin, I fucking geeked out at that bit. Also the weird, super creepy super fucked up Spider-Man Elsa videos by the bradberry dudes. That was genuinely interesting to learn how that one dude, DennisCee Tv I think, just out of the blue completely changed his channel into the toys for retarded kids videos with specialized super hero characters in costumes. If Ethan from h3 made videos about finding cryptic messages and hidden shit in those videos I'd keep watching them all the time. But now, I keep seeing less and less content that's channel specific and more content that features other YT stars appearing in each other's videos, clearly to get views and that's it. They'll put together these mostly incoherent, vlog/dumb skit hybrid videos with lackluster, lazy editing and content they either thought about for 20 minutes the day before or day of filming, with no clear goal in mind other than who could be the most silly, most "memeable" person, and none of them still don't have any shame about telling me to press the like button and subscribe. I can't speak for everyone but for me, telling me to do either one of those things is a great way to make me not want to do both. I used to think H3h3 had overall very funny content and interesting subject matter in their videos, but in retrospect, like 80% of the videos are a downright waste of time with Ethan doing the same things over and over and over again, which, sure yeah it was funny the first 10 times but now it's like he doesn't care about trying to at least innovate a little or improve the overall quality of his videos. A lot of them look like slop I'd throw together for an experimental film course my senior year of college trying to get my degree in media arts. Seriously, I majored in media arts and took an experimental film course where, in a last minute effort to get a project turned in, I would film my friends doing stupid shit and saying stupid shit, throw in some quick time lapse shots in my backyard, add in some cool, relaxing trippy music clips, and top it off with some rudimentary after effects, export and boom, I'd get an A+ because I was able to defend my sloppiness by saying it was artistic self expression and how I was trying to push the boundaries of film. Experimental art or film is like that, you get to do whatever you want and call it artistic and nobody can say shit because beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and art is subjective. Easy A, GPA boosting class that I had fun in.
