I received a kidney transplant yesterday, AMA.

Best of luck to you! My aunt was an organ recipient (kidney / pancreas) so I'm kind of familiar with your operation.

You looking forward to using the bathroom again? Drinking a glass of water and not worrying about it? My aunt loved driving to Florida while in kidney failure. No bathroom breaks! Lol

I remember the ice chips my grandfather loved to eat while on dialysis. My aunt too (diabetes ruined their kidneys) this was over 15 years ago and back then the prognosis for long term dialysis wasn't too great. I believe it's changed since then - you can even do it without going to a clinic. Amazing stuff. Looking back even 15 years dialysis has improved tremendously. Oh yeah - I also remember the dialized potatoes by letting them soak overnight. It had to do with the amount of potassium in them or something. I was a kid when all this went down but my mom wound up taking care of her father (grandfather) and sister (aunt).

I wish you the best of luck sir, and I wish a speedy recovery for mom - I know the donator has a tougher time than the recipient usually so I hope she's doing well. What a woman - she gave you life and she's giving you a second chance. We sure as hell cant choose our family but it sounds like you struck the family lottery with her.

Anyway I hope you feel better and better day after day. I'm sure you're on a medicine like prednisone to keep your immune system from rejection. That shit sucks and the meds are tough but I mean it's a small price to pay for the new life you're getting. I'm sure you've been given the rundown already plenty of times.

Congratulations, and best of luck to you in anything that you do :)

If you have any questions I'll do my best to answer them. Unfortunately it will be from memory as my aunt passed over 10 years after getting her kidney and pancreas. The cause of death was an unrelated cancer... Getting those organs undoubtedly saved her life and would've kept on going for who knows how long had she not gotten sick.
