[Request] How to talk someone out of committing suicide

My friend works in health care and explained that what happens next is the cops usually use force to subdue the person, they are sometimes jailed before processing. They are then place in a medical facility where they can be held against their will for 72 hours minimum. Many of these facilities will convince the patient through coercion or false promise to be fully admitted which strips the patient of any remaining rights. You can not speak with family, call a friend, call a lawyer, leave, or represent yourself until a doctor approves. Once admitted it can take 1 to 2 weeks to see a doctor. Some facilities will not allow you to leave until you have paid your "bill". Average cost I have seen is $500 to $1k per day.

My friend works at one of these places. She said she often sees people admitted not because of mental health issues but as a legal form of coercion or political abuse. Activists, police officers who refuse corruption, whistle blowers, and people who have crossed the mob regularly show up on false reports. It's a good way to ruin someone with literally no evidence and no effort. For weeks you are basicly jailed only worse because there is no legal system to appeal to, only a doctor who's income grows with each patient added to the facility.

My friend works as a patient advocate but has literally zero power other than to meet with patients once a week and try to reassure them until they can get out.

She said that when a normal health person is put through this process that it is so soul crushingly devastating some actually develop life long mental health problems like paralyzing anxiety and ptsd. She regularly sees parents, husbands, wives and children cashing out everything they have to rescue a friend or loved one from the system.

After that the "patient" is then stuck with with a diagnosis the head physician chose to brand them with which can have a life long impact on employment, access to health care, political, legal and personal affairs.
