A Scientist Weighs in on the Validity of the Avery Trial Bullet and Blood In The Jeep DNA Tests

/r/PlayingNightcrawlers Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't his attorneys say they contacted labs at the start of the trial but nobody was able to do the test for them, at least not in a reasonable timeframe? I'm not sure how many labs do this sort of testing and at this point I'm guessing Steven doesn't have the money. I could be misremembering though.

What about in the last eight years?

/r/ikmkim You're completely disregarding the science behind the comments you're replying to. No edta detected doesn't mean it wasn't there. It just wasn't present in detectable levels, by this particular test that is not peer reviewed or verified by an outside source in any way, after being dried. There is no evidence that there even exists a test that could have detected it at such a dilute level, or that every single mL of blood that came from an edta tube would necessarily contain ANY edta. Did you even read the article?

No, I'm not. I do not speak to the science of the test at all. What I'm saying is, instead of finding fault with the test, which even if you get the test disqualified, there is still no evidence of EDTA in the blood evidence, find a lab that will run the test for you. They've had the past eight years to do it.

/r/pm_a_surprise So you have no problem with the unscientific testing or the conclusions, but only that the defense didn't have the money to create a expensive scientific study? Why didn't avery get a chemistry set in jail? Would you agree that these flaws question the veracity of the results? That we should examine if the conclusions of the fbi were the truth?

Try to at least objective read my post. I'm saying the FBI testimony , even if it was stricken, does not change anything. There is still no evidence of EDTA in the blood evidence. The defense clearly pointed out the possibility of EDTA being in the blood, after 8 years, they still not have proven EDTA is in the blood.

People are pointing to this testimony as some smoking gun of EDTA being in the blood. They've had almost a decade to find EDTA in the blood sample. That would be the most logical and empirical way to prove EDTA is in the blood evidence, not by disputing a test that will prove nothing.
