Smartphones

I destroyed my iPhone with a hammer a few weeks ago.

Though the act itself seemed impulsive and irrational, I recall the decisive moment - and the fear of maintaining the current relationships with family members and friends was paramount.

It appears our tales are coming from opposite spectrums. I also would seek a middle path in understanding more of these concerns of yours, as I believe the answer lies within your own makeup as much as a conventional approach.

On the one hand, conventional analysis has shown some harsh side effects of screen time, as well as wireless frequency-emitting devices close to the body. Though the latter is still much in the realm of quasi-science, I would simply state an empirical truth: that we are creatures of habit and are (often) held subject to our environments.

Whether or not we hold these as "self-evident" is another matter...

You may want to take a brief moment every day to accept such thoughts as you have shared - cultivate them - apply them to your life - in a world that is turning faster, faster, and faster - where our senses (and sometimes simply one basic sense of sight) are led to perceive such impulses as are frequently presented to us so mightily in the palm of our hand - we are often blinded by technology into understanding it is nothing more than a function of the user - there is no such thing as a smart phone without a smart user.

Are you worried about walking when you cannot find your shoes?

I ask these questions because I must ask myself them continually as I recalibrate myself to a new life.

The doors of perception we are often led down bring us around to the same center. That is cyclic existence. Conventionally speaking, you may be spending more screen time than what is healthy for your own biochemistry.... I would suggest taking notes of your behavior, to better recognize what you discern as an attachment and what is a legitimate concern that legitimizes the use of your phone.

If all of this makes no sense, you may find some useful words in 'The Way of Zen.'

Or not,

good luck
