Most anything I’m about to say has been covered already. I currently run a 12 man dynasty league going into year 5 this year and overall it’s been a really competitive league with most of the league being active throughout the season. Tons of trading in the off-season too.

I think big keys to maintaining the league have been:

1) I started the league with only close friends and friends of friends

2) we’ve had a few people dropped over the years or basically kicked due to inactivity. Always replacing them with friends or friends of league members has been important.

I saw this because without some sort of connection and communication (league group chat of course) the league will die and/or not be very fun. I think the inactivity on this sub has a lot to do with that. People just don’t have the necessary group to get a dynasty league started.

I also want to say dynasty options for basketball are way worse than football or even baseball. We currently use ESPN and I use a spreadsheet to keep track of all draft pick trades (and off-season trades if ESPN is down), but would love to move over to a platform like Sleeper. Problem is Sleeper doesn’t have category leagues.

I think in time it will gain some popularity but wont ever be as popular as dynasty football (or baseball).
