I'm writing a story based on the veil between us (mortals) and the spirits who exist in the pre-existance, and the spirits / resurrected beings in post-earth life.

Background - The bible speaks of a war in heaven where 1/3 of the hosts of heaven chose to follow Lucifer's plan and 2/3 chose to follow our Father's plan. The war is described as terrible and great, yet none of the people actually on earth can remember the war, what happened, where we came from or why we are even here on the earth. All 1/3 who follow Lucifer remember though, all the brutality and anger and rage for losing out on the opportunity to go to earth.

Those who chose to follow Father all have a date set to go to earth, live out their lives and work to chose the path they will follow. Those who chose to follow Lucifer are all gathered on earth to thwart those they've hated for many millennia.

Story line - Two best friends, Adriel and Cassius, find themselves struggling between Father's plan and Lucifer's plan. They've always trusted Father, but Lucifer's plan makes so much sense. Ultimately they are forced to choose a side and fight for Father. They make many enemies along the way. Adriel saves Oksana as she is almost completely overtaken by a hoard of spirits fighting for Lucifer. She joins Adriel and Cassius in their fight for Father.

Adriel and Oksana fall in love, though love pre-mortality is forbidden, as it never turns out as hoped. Too many variables that never come together once the couple becomes mortal. Irregardless Adriel and Oksana secretly make a vow to each other. Because of their valiant acts in the war, they are granted a number of things: knowledge of when they will come to earth, the place where they will be born, and because of this they can even see how many times Adriel and Oksana's paths should likely cross. Once they are on earth though, all is left to them - and those who will help (proctors) or thwart (followers) their efforts.

Adriel gets his date for earth, he's first of the three. As is common, a party is thrown in honor of the one who is about to leave pre-mortal earth and to be born to mortality and gain a body. As we lived for thousands of years pre-earth we've amassed many close relationships, so the party is quite large. As Adriel walks into the pool of life, his spiritual form crosses the veil and takes on his physical likeness. The crowd quiets and then bows, honoring him and all he has done up until this time. Adriel's honorary brother steps forward and whispers to Adriel just before he releases his hand and enters the waters completely, 'Adriel, before you go. I want you to know, it was me.'

Adriel's face gathers with questions just before he is completely submerged and crosses the veil to mortality.

The crowd cheers at the flash from the pool, knowing he has been born into mortality and has started his path on earth.

One of the proctors monitoring Adriel's passing gasps loudly and says, "What is happening? This is all wrong."
A crowd begins to gather around the proctor.
"What's wrong?" asks Oksana, as she runs across the room to see.

"It doesn't make any sense. Adriel was born to a different mother than was assigned, in a different area than he had been told. How can this be? I saw the order just this morning."

"What are you talking about?! He was to be born to the Stevenson family in Williamsburg." Said Oksana.
"How did you know that? Well, somehow the order has been changed. He is in that general area, but miles outside of Williamsburg. I will have to speak to the proctor's council. Wait... the order doesn't have the council's approval on it. How could this have happened?"

Oksana realized the danger she was now in, and that their vow was now in jeopardy. She sprang to life running to the council building to see about getting her date changed, and potentially her birth family. Large hurdles, but nothing would hold her back from being with Adriel.

As she rounded the corner outside of the veil birthing pool she was caught by Cassius and pulled to the side.
"Oksana, we can't stay long." said Cassius, looking all around in fear.
"What's wrong? Why are you afraid?" said Oksana.
"Oksana, it's time. It is time we are honest with ourselves." said Cassius with a knowing look in his eyes. "It's time we both admit the truth we've been hiding for too long."
"What are you talking about? I have to get to the council and work to help Adriel, come on you can help." she gasped as she struggled to free herself from his grip.

"Oksana - I. I love you." he stammered out.

Oksana turned and looked at him. What did he mean? Why would he say that, why now? As she looked in his eyes it became clear, Cassius was the reason for Adriel's birth change. Cassius must have known about their vow. He must have known and then thwarted their efforts to be together. Worked to make the changes before they ever had a chance. Sobbing she said, "Cassius, no. No. Why have you done this?"
"You must know. I have always loved you. I've watched you and Adriel share so much, but I knew once you were free from him, we could be together - forever." he whispered. "Come, there's no time, we must go. They are already looking for me. It's only minutes before they realize I was the one who changed the order. Then the gates will be changed and I'll be shut out of this place."

Then it all became clear.

Cassius had changed Adriel's order and by so doing he'd broken Father's law. In breaking Father's law he'd closed the door for himself to go to earth, he'd chosen Lucifer's side. He would be forever shut out, working with Lucifer and the third of the hosts of heaven to attain their goal. Oksana's heart burst.

With the pain that only comes from knowing someone for thousands of years and then losing them, she said, "Cassius, I do love you, but I can't leave Adriel. I can't leave Father. I'm staying here." She bowed to him, honoring him for all he had done to help her in all the time they'd been together. It was something that could not be lightly shunned. He had chosen though, and she must now make a choice.

She stood, and with a broken heart whispered her love to him, "I love you Cassius, and with all my heart I hope you will find happiness Cassius. I have cast my lot with Father though, and I will work to find and help Adriel. We are of the same heart and I plan to be with him." She turned and walked toward the council building.

Cassius's heart melted. He had put everything he'd ever hoped for into this day. All his wishes, dreams and desires - today was to be his day. Then she walked away and left him for Adriel - again. His anger welled and oozed over his insides. She would rue the day she turned on him. Adriel's every move would be thwarted on earth, not just by the runamuck follower, but by him. Cassius would find every single enemy Adriel had ever made and work to have them hurt Adriel all his mortal life.

If Cassius couldn't have Oksana, then no one would.

Ongoing story line - Oksana works to change her date and location to be closer to Adriel's. Their paths do cross, but only a fraction of what they had hoped. Adriel's born to a single mother struggling with drug dependence, a much steeper hill than he had hoped to climb. Also because of the change, the proctor assigned to follow and help Adriel wasn't the eternity long friend who had sworn to follow and help him, it was a first time proctor. No life experience at all, no merit, not a fighter in the pre-mortal wars - a pacifist. Life would be much harder for both Adriel and Oksana.

Cassius works to thwart Oksana and Adriel constantly, individually and together.
Ultimately Oksana and Adriel get together, are married and have children.
As Oksana is driving through an intersection Cassius whispers one of their favorite songs, pre-mortal life, into her ear. It catches her off guard as the memory of the song calls to her, and she is struck by a car going the other direction, hospitalized.
- She could die and Cassius has another opportunity to sway her to join him as a follower. Then she works to fight for Adriel and her children from the other side of the veil, protecting them. That is, until Adriel also dies and joins her.
- She could be in a coma and communicate with those on the other side of the veil, Cassius could work to sway her again. Ultimately recovering from the coma.

In the end, it's a love triangle, one where Cassius thwarts everything Adriel does. And he does it in the eyes of Oksana, always whispering to her the failings of Adriel, how Adriel doesn't love her, etc. So, when she dies, Cassius hopes to call her to the other side, be a follow of Lucifer and give up all she'd done before and during her earth life. Then they can be together forever.

Who will win, Cassius or Adriel?
