Perhaps not. Niantic is scheduled to release PvP at the end of the year and there’s a good chance that a rework to battling is coming.

Trading did take forever but that was due to most likely figure out how to release it without giving spoofers/botters too control/ power with it. The random IVs, stardust cost and luckies is honestly a brilliant way to prevent spoofers/botters from giving away a bunch of perfect Pokémon and with the introduction of luckies it’s better to mass trade Pokémon and get luckies instead of high IVs. High IV and half dust cost is better than what ppl can spoof after all. Recently also handing out regionals worldwide in egg hatches is pretty much ruining the last thing spoofers had.

I’m just pointing out that Go and now Lets Go are new growing games so to compare them to a series that’s over 20 yrs old is a bit unfair. However in The case of Go it’s evolved a lot in 2 yrs and it alrdy about to go into gen 4. An update to the battle system is about due and what better time than to do it when pvp comes out at the end of the year. The gym system was ripped apart and redone so Niantic clearly doesn’t have a problem redoing something from the ground up.

Obviously no one knows either way but it’s possible that it’ll have abilities before it comes out in the DS series. Another thing Meltans released showed was that the Pokémon company wants Go, Let’s Go and the DS series all linked.
