Too old for anime, or something else?

Shinji and Spike aren't in the same genre. It's not apples to oranges are you kidding me? You can compare characters within a genre. Pointing out 2 stellar protagonists from 2 exceptional anime's doesn't give the entire medium a free pass. Believe it or not, you can compare 2 shounen protagonists against each other. You can also compare 2 shoujo protagonists against each other. It can be done. It isn't impossible. When you do that, you can see the stock, 1-dimensional rip-offs of previous anime's being repeated endlessly.

Dick jokes in western animated series? That's um, just family guy. I don't think it's as prevalent as you think it is. Please do compare anime to western anime series then. Go ahead, I encourage it. Pick a genre, and do the same test. I dare you. This can be done too. I mean we could even compare the animated star wars attack of the clones series, teen titans, Samurai Jack, Kid's Next Door, Johnny Quest, even the b-level how to train your dragon series, if you want. They share the same demographic and action/adventure genre. These could be viewed as "American shounen." As nerdy as this is getting, I'm going to point out that characters behind each series are strong, more than 1-dimensional and not a stock reference to spike or shinji, or whoever. Can you do the same with a list of shounen? I'm not even a fan of any of those shows I mentioned, but I'm just trying to get my point across (And these are the average popular kids shows, since your argument was about average popular anime shows within their genres). Characterization in anime is simple, 1-dimensional, and very stocky.

Adult Swim and Western Animation do not have the similar market-share problem. Simply because Adult Swim allows indie creators to pretty much do whatever the hell they want. They don't face the same restraints that anime studios do because they respect the artists' vision. Look at Rick and Morty.

I don't know where you're getting your facts from, but to your credit, you're definitely an ardent defender of anime even if you don't get the facts right.

And lastly, where's the sheer amount of murder and rape played back to back to back 24/7? You must have a different cable provider. And preferring to live in an animated fantasy of fan service says a lot about you. I find it personally creepy as hell, but I'm not here to judge you, just anime. And again, if you like Harem, or Anime that's like that, then that's great for you. I'm not here to criticize you or your choices. But it is what it is. You can't argue that. And I can see why this is such a sensitive issue for you. You sure you're not a weeaboo? Your personal fantasies & emotions shouldn't play a part in a rational discussion.
