The union argues that it's no one's business whether or not someone has their vaccine. Management says yes, it's definitely our business considering we are public employees interacting with the public on a daily basis.
Union held strong and convinced half the staff to not submit. Management set a deadline for all staff to submit proof and have bumped the deadline once already.
After little progress, management brought the issue to the Ontario Labour Relations Board and said that by pushing the union to not provide proof of vaccination, they are creating an illegal strike. That seemed to change the union's tune, and less than a day later, union president was telling everyone to just do it.
