There are only three hospitals in this town.

Avoid HCA. Absolutely awful people, the Company never replaces equipment so some is from the 80s, it’s broken, worn out. Also different departments of the hospital are outsourced, like emergency doctors that call you in, parking people etc. they don’t work for the hospital so it made things extra difficult as no one was held accountable when things didn’t function. Pay is low for the area.

VCU is ok, cheap benefits, they make staff hold other staff accountable and that’s part of a portfolio of essays you write to prove why you deserve a raise each year. Big drawbacks are you pay to park and you cannot take time off without PTO to use. The worst to me was having to use your PTO for the holidays that they were closed, then of course you didn’t have it at the end of the year, so no vacation for you! One of my managers there was pure evil and gutted our department. They had fired her before they rehired her.

Bon secours is ok If you don’t mind working at a place that says they’re Catholic to use tax loopholes and then don’t give raises due to whatever bad finance deals they made. Or the fact that they don’t have to cover women’s birth control because they are Catholic. Saint Mary’s is the best one to work for imo. Some of the older managers in the other hospitals let things go to the point where it’s every man for himself.
