Weekly Careers/Education Questions Thread

Hi friends! I just graduated last December and applied for 3 PhD programs for organic chemistry. So far, I’ve been rejected from 2 of them and am expecting a rejection or ghost from the 3rd. I was very set on going to grad school and focused my prep work on entering a PhD program this fall. Now that grad school is no longer an option this year, I desperately need a way to 1.) make money and 2.) beef up my resume and skill set for when I apply to grad schools again. I am interested in drug discovery/organic synthesis. I worked in an organic lab doing photoredox catalysis, cross-coupling, and various syntheses for about 8 months. I have experience from my research, but I still feel so incredibly unprepared to enter the work force. I have no idea how to search for a job, how to know what I want in a chem job, how to interview, any of that.

Tl;dr: Does anyone have advice on redirecting after being rejected from PhD programs?
