I think my mother promised herself she'd never be an abusive parent like her parents were to her and her siblings and wanted a strong and healthy relationship with me and my sisters. Things didn't go her way and although she is not physically abusive with us, she is very emotionally abusive. She entered into a relationship with a man while she had a lot of pent up anger and unresolved problems. My big sister is trying to avoid making the mistakes our mother made and praying her kids won't be messed up. As for myself, I don't want to bring in a lot of anger or baggage from unresolved parental feelings or put my petty problems on my future spouse or kids. I still have work to do before I’m ready to make such a commitment.
