Merely pointing out a discontinuity is not a rebuttal if you just ignore the actual points being made. English majors understand this, even if apologists, on the whole, do not. So let's not knock the English majors. ;)

Pointing out discontinuities is the only way to debunk an analogy. Did you have a point when you wrote this?

The only thing is that there is no point of continuity of any significance here.

Jane Austen still wrote drama "books." So the point still stands. There was little to no interest in history when Austen wrote her books.
