Howdy there partner! It appears that you stumbled into the Mojave! I'm afraid that nice man you were talking to wanted to deceitfully trick you into letting down your guard and supporting a dictatorial brutal regime. Silly him! Let me give you a rundown of some of the people you may meet!
Caeser's Legion are those big scary folks tampling into the Mojave from the East. They're big and tough, but they're all silly! They dress like... Um... Sadly I don't have the right memory units to know what kind of Pre-War culture they're trying to be, but they sure ain't dressed like hardworking Americans like you and me.
Then there's them Enseeare... Um... Sorry, "NCR" folks coming in from the west. They call themselves the "New Californian Republic". Because they're a Republic. Made from the ruins of the Old World Commonwealth of California. And they're supposedly new.... Ok, they've been around for a while now, but I don't think they're gonna change the name. Sillies!
Anyhoo, those NCR folks and them there Legion fellows don't get along too great together. And, well, when the NCR is moving their men in from the West, and the Legion is moving their army in from the East, all hell's gonna break lose. And Vegas? Well, looks like we're smack dab in the middle of where these two groups of party poopers are gonna meet: the Mojave Wasteland.
Don't let the name fool ya. There's little radiation in the Mojave. Some JERK from the New Californian JERKSTORE probably came here, saw our beautiful desert and thought "Oh, this barren land reminds me of the hole I crawled out of back when I was living filth masquerading as a human being back in California, which is also the closest equivalent any place can be to human filth! Guess I'm going to report it's a Wasteland and be on my way!"... Those sillies.
Anyway, partner, there's little to no radiation down here in the Mojave Wasteland! The only kind of radiation is visible light from our fabulous Strip. Don't worry about those two other factions, being silly and trying to see who's the better example of human filth, and come enjoy our fantastic casinos, hotels and places of entertainment!
