What makes a good opening line?

"In retrospect, cats were the real reason Earth was invaded. Twice. It wasn't that the aliens who sat in what amounted to a duck blind patiently waiting for decades for the humans to cross over into the Oort Cloud and therefore be considered capable of engaging in the world of commerce. Nor was it the massive station the Elders locked in an enormous irregular orbit masquerading as a comet. It came down to just cats doing what they do best for the people they love more than anything else. Their method to show their humans how much they love them is to sit on the most important thing possible, and then demand attention. When that thing happens to be an activation sequencer that opens one of the only eight entanglement gates known to exist in the eighth spiral direct to the home planet of one of the most feared and technologically advanced species ever evolved in the Milky Way Galaxy, everyone who DOESN'T want to be conquered by Eldritch horrors of ancient times past gets a little tetchy with the species nominally responsible for the creatures opening the gateway to hell."
